Paolo MONELLI (July 15, 1891 - November 19, 1984), Italian journalist, writer and military, made his debut with the highly successful opera 'Le scarpe al sole' (1921), which deals with the experience in World War I, to which he had participated enlisting as a volunteer in the Alpini, following his own interventionist conviction and the spirit of adventure. He later collaborated in numerous newspapers as a special correspondent and foreign correspondent. On 11 November 1926, in a restaurant in Milan, together with a dozen intellectual friends, he had the idea to establish a literary prize: the Bagutta Prize, suspended in 1937 because it did not suffer from the regime's pressures, and restored from 1946. Photographic portrait performed by Ghitta Carell (20 September 1899 - 18 January 1972), Hungarian naturalized Italian photographer, official portraitist of the Italian royals and eminent personalities of the regime, who in the years after the war made portraits to various personalities of the culture , politics, nobility and Roman bourgeoisie. Italy, around 1930.
