caption: PAPA SAN FABIANO martyr (? - 20 January 250), born in Rome, elected in 236, buried in the Catacombs of San Callisto and then to Santa Praxedes. His election has an origin extraordinary: the Christians were gathered to designate the new Roman bishop among the many distinguished and noble candidates, when they saw with amazement a rest dove on the head of a farmer who occasionally was in town. This scene, so similar to the descent of the Holy Spirit, convinced them to elect Fabiano successor to Pope Antero. Postcard chromolithographic n. 243 from the 'Collection of the Popes Romans' dedicated to Pope Pius X and blessed by Him. Rome, October 1903.
