caption: PAPA SAN CALLISTO The Martyr (? -222), Born in Rome, elected in 217, according to popular belief was thrown into a pit with a stone around his neck, but there is no historical evidence for this event. After a checkered existence by slave culminated with the exile in Sardinia to forced labor, he rejoined the Christian community and took care of the cemetery on the Appian Way, already called since then "catacombs of Callisto." For this reason it is considered the patron of those who work in the cemeteries. He is buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere. I remember the liturgical year, on October 14. Portrait, detail from a chromolithographic postcard of the 'Collection of the Popes Romans' dedicated to Pope Pius X and blessed by Him (in whole # 5186). Rome, October 1903.
