caption: Pope Benedict VI (? - 974), born in Rome, elected at the end of the 972 with the support of Emperor Otto I, was consecrated in 973 in accordance with the "diploma ottonianum" which was dependent on the legitimacy of the election by ' imperial permission. Governed the Church for one year and three months, it was deposed in 974 during an insurrection and imprisoned at Castel Sant'Angelo, where he died strangled.
