caption: PAPA CLEMENTE II (1005 - 9 October 1047), born Snidgero the Lords of Meresleve and Horneburg, born in Saxony, elected in 1046. He governed the Church for one year, beginning with the pontificate with the consecration of Henry III and his wife Agnese Poitou as emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. Immediately after he called a council in which they were promulgated decrees against simony, thus manifesting his reformist intentions and purifying the ecclesiastical costumes; poisoned died October 9, 1047 in the monastery of Santommaso sull'Apsella near Pesaro.
