DER MUSIK MACHT FREI paraphrase of the Auschwitz motto on the cartouche found within the "violin of the Shoah", belonging to the young violinist Eva Levi Segre, deported and died at the age of 22 in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Transmitted to his brother Renzo (or Enzo, only one year younger), he is instead survived being able to bring it back with him in his difficult return to Italy, where he remained sadly unused until the discovery by Carutti. The instrument, which is periodically used in celebratory concerts, is exposed to the public from the year that saw the double anniversary of the centenary of Italy's entry into the first conflict, and of the 70th anniversary of the end of the second: from the Day of Memory of 2015.
