Salomon GESSNER (1 April 1730 - 2 March 1788) Swiss poet and painter. Attracted as a young man by the charm of nature, he was a landscape painter and an idyllic poet. A member of the Orell, Gessner, Füssli & C., the most important Swiss publishing house of the time, as well as a partner and artistic director of Kilchberg porcelain factory, in 1780 he founded the Giornale di Zurigo.
