Saint MASSIMO of Riez (circa 388 - November 27, 455), confessor, abbot of Lérins and then bishop of Riez in Upper Provence. Born in a family of prominent Christian faith, he grew up in self-discipline, and at 18 he secretly chose chastity and poverty, devoting himself entirely to the study. Just over twelve years old, he was welcomed into the abbey of Lérins, where he became a abbot for forty years, and spent seven years until Sant'Ilario appointed him bishop of Riez. Even as a bishop he humbly retained his monastic dress, under his leadership in the diocese new monasteries arose, many monks came together and flourished the studies. According to some biographers, Massimo had taumaturgical powers, such as to resurrect the dead and cast out demons. Commemoration on November 27, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky). Colored Etching, Italy 1886
