MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI (circa 1480 - 1534), an Italian engraver, considered the first to understand and exploit the great commercial value of the reproduction of the works of famous authors, which he expects widely. It is said that, fascinated by the beauty of some of Albrecht Durer's plates, he began to study the stretch by reproducing them in copper for the furrow, including the famous AD sign; having learned of it, the German engraver personally brought his remarks to the Signoria of Venice, from which he only obtained that the copies could not be reproduced. The portrait in oval is enclosed in a frame decorated with allegorical figures and instruments of the arts. Colored illustration on a 16th century xylographic basis, from the treaty 'The Vines of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors and Architects' by Giorgio Vasari (July 30, 1511 - June 27, 1574), 2nd enlarged and revised edition, Giunti, Florence 1568
