Saint Francis Borgonia (October 28, 1510 - September 30, 1572), IV Duke of Gandia and viceroy of Catalonia. Having remained widowed, he entered the Society of Jesus; in 1550 he was ordained a priest in Rome, where he became one of the major collaborators of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola; in 1565 he was elected general prefect of the order, who promoted missionary activity in India, Brazil and Japan. Proclaimed holy by Pope Clement X in 1670, his liturgical memory falls on September 30, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky), October 10 according to the calendar of the extraordinary form of the Roman rite.
