Saint CLODOALDO (522 - September 7, 560), the ex-prince of the Merovingian dynasty. Third-born son of Clodomiro, King of the Franks Sali, while still infant, remained orphaned by his father, who fell into battle. Relied on paternal grandfather Santa Clotilde, in the struggle for succession her brothers were both killed, but he could save himself thanks to some faithful servants, and to reach, concealed, adult age. According to the account of Bishop Gregory of Tours, who grew up in faith, instead of fomenting new conflicts by claiming his kingdom, Clodoaldo preferred to retire to the holy anacoreta Severino, sharing his hermitage at the gates of Paris. Later he was ordained priest at Nogent (present Saint-Cloud in his memory), there he founded the monastery of San Martino, also renamed in his honor, where he ended his days in peace. Commemoration on September 7, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky). Colored Etching, Italy 1886
