HISTORY OF REPUBLIC OF HUNGARY (969 - August 15, 1038), first king, founder of the State and of the Hungarian Church. Born by the pagan magical Géza captain, and Sarolta, the Christian daughter of the regent of Transylvania, was initially called Vajk; at the conversion of his father when he was 10, he was baptized by Stephen, in homage to the protomartire. Initially in support of his father, then as his heir, he was the creator of Christianity and unification of Hungary, with the Pope's blessing and the support of the Holy Roman Emperor. His liturgical feast runs August 16, while the Hungarians celebrate it on August 20th, the day he was elected king in the year 1000, but also when his remains were transferred to Buda. On September 2, according to Pope Innocent XI, the patron saint of Hungary celebrated the resumption of the fort of Buda by the Christian army in 1686. Colored engraving, Italy 1886
