Saint ROCCO of Montpellier (1346/1350 - night between 15 and 16 August 1376/1379) French pilgrim and taumaturgo, venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church, invoked for its characteristics of divine healer against the plagues. The only son of a noble family, when he remained orphaned, donated his possessions to charity and left for pilgrimage to Rome, always devoted to the assistance of the sick and needy. According to the tradition, while he was in Piacenza, he counted the contagion; To avoid retransmitting it, he retired in isolation in a cave along the Trebbia, where a dog carried him daily comfort and a piece of bread, allowing him to regain his health and return to charity works. When the urban epidemic was eradicated, he retired to the forest to treat the infected animals and finally stop the disease, with the help of some Piacents who became his disciples. Patrons of infected, marginalized, hikers and pilgrims, health workers, pharmacists, insurance, volunteers, dogs, knee protectors and joints are commemorated on August 16, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky). Colored Etching, Italy 1886
