ANTONELLO DA MESSINA (1429 or 1430 - February 1479), a nickname with which Antonio is known of Giovanni de Antonio, an Italian painter. The Sicilian painter of the fifteenth century, his ability to melt the attention to the light of Flemish painting with the spatiality of the Italian one made it a reference point for the evolution of the artistic Renaissance in Italy. The portrait is enclosed in a frame decorated with caryatids holding the tools of art and an allegory of painting.
