ISABELLA D'ARAGONA (January 4, 1271 - July 4, 1336), also known as Sant'Elisabetta of Portugal, consort of Portugal and Algarve from 1282 to 1325. The young bride of King Dionysius of Portugal, with the diplomacy of the intemperate character Of her husband, and played a role as a pacifist between these and the hereditary prince, fearing that he could be usurped by the many illegitimate sons of his father. He remained a widow, gave the crown to the Shrine of Compostela, stripped himself of personal belongings and entered as a Franciscan third order in the monastery of the clarisses he had erected in Coimbra. Canonized in 1625, it is revered as a saint by the Catholic Church. The commemoration at the time of the press was celebrated on July 8, and the Roman Martiology of 2001 sets liturgical memory on July 4, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky).
