Santa ETHELDREDE (636 - 679) queen of Northumbria, then laurel, venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. The Daughter of the King of the Eastern Anglicans, twice approved the marriage for state reasons, provided the spouses committed themselves to respecting his vow of chastity. His second husband, Egfrido of Northumbria, then obtained the annulment of the wedding, and the santa founded and became the cradle of a double monastery on Ely's Island, where he had retired for some time, received as a wedding gift from her first husband Prince Tonbert Cyrvii, who instead respected his vote until death.
