SAN GIOVANNI NEPOMUCENO (about 1349-1393), Czech priest, canon of the cathedral in Prague and preacher to the court King Wenceslas, who had him killed by drowning. There are two reasons why the king would have decreed death, by some considered to be contributing factors, for others it separated occurring episodes two namesakes characters: the first, as the confessor of Queen Joanna of Bavaria, is a categorical refusal to transgress all 'obligation of the confessional by revealing the jealous king secret confidences of his wife; the second reason, political affiliations, consists in having vigorously opposed, as vicar general of the archbishop, to a king's commandment about the fate of an abbey, which violated canon law. Doubt that the two events that led to the torture and death may not have happened to the same person comes from a discrepancy in the dates, but might be due to a mere annotation error. Proclaimed a saint by papa Benedetto XIII in 1729, is the patron of Bohemia, confessors and all the people in danger of drowning. Recurrence May 16. Colored engraving, Italy 1886
