SAN PACOMIO (292 - 9 May 348), Egyptian monk; First paid and forcibly soldier in the Roman army, converted to Christianity; After a period lived as an ascetic in the desert, an angelic voice suggested to build a monastery at Tabennisi, elaborating the oldest "rule" known for the community life of the 1300 confreres and sisters who had gathered around him. It is revered as the saint founder of Cenobitic monasticism by various Christian churches including Catholics, Orthodox, and Coptic. The Catholic Church celebrates liturgical memory on 9 May, the Orthodox Church on May 15. Commemoration is reported in this collection on May 14, often referred to as the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth in the sky) perhaps for a different interpretation in the conversion of the date from the Alexandrian synassary. Colored Etching, Italy 1886
