caption: Sant'APOLLONIO (? - 21 April 186), a Roman scholar, a philosopher and probably a senator. Denounced as a Christian by one of his slaves to the prefect Perennio, instead of exculpating himself he pronounced an apology of Christianity that condemned him to martyrdom. The commemoration at the time of the press was celebrated on April 18, the Roman Martyrology of 2001 fixed the liturgical memory on April 21, the day of death (Dies Natalis, birth to heaven). Colored engraving, Italy 1886
