caption: ENRICHETTA MARIA (1609-1669) of Bourbon-France, daughter of Henri IV and Maria de 'Medici. In 1625 she married Charles I Stuart King of England; due to the civil war in which her husband was killed in 1649, he was forced to flee with their children and to return to France where he received, at the Louvre, little generous hospitality. He retired then to Chaillot, where he founded the convent of the Visitation. He returned to England after the Restoration with his son Charles II, but for health reasons had to then go back again to France, where he remained until his death.
