caption: Felice DAGNINO (1834-1909) Italian patriot and businessman. Born in a Genoa recently annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia, but with a persistent republican soul, he was a faithful friend and collaborator of Giuseppe Mazzini with whom he maintained a close correspondence, and to whom he made available his organizational skills to support the financing and the propaganda of unitary and democratic initiatives. He brought his ideals to the real economy: as managing director of the People's Bank of Credit, founded on a cooperative basis in 1868, he argued that the Bank had to carry out a function of relief to the less well-off classes. Portrait from the collection 'Society of Veterans of the Patrie Battaglie'. Photograph by anonymous, Italy, around 1909
