LIBYA Derna, customs. City of Libya and north-eastern capital of the homonymous municipality. At one time the city was the capital of Cyrenaica, one of the richest provinces in the Barbary States. During the Italian colonial period Derna was the second city of Cyrenaica, Benghazi after, and in 1939 was incorporated in the Italian province (known as Province of Derna) and officially united with the other three provinces of Libya, the country of the Kingdom of Italy.
