St. Frumentius bishop of Ethiopia (fourth century), feast on October 27 and 20 July. Roman citizen originally from Tyre in Lebanon, he was taken prisoner by the Ethiopians together with his brother, with whom he was returning from a trip. The king of Ethiopia gave them the duties at court, and at his death his widow left them free, but asked to remain Frumentius to help his son Ezana yet a boy in the regency. Frumenzio increased the Christian community that was so far mainly made up of Roman merchants, bringing the faith even to Ethiopians; Patriarch of Alexandria Athanasius consecrated him bishop of Axum: St. Frumentius is considered the founder of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
