caption: Alessandro POERIO (1802-1848) Italian poet and patriot. After his father's exile in Graz, he attended Giacomo Leopardi and Niccolò Tommaseo: perhaps for this reason his works, with a predominantly patriotic and romantic content, were influenced by Leopardi's influences. In the forty-eight, fighting in defense of the Republic of Venice, he died for the wounds reported in the battle of Mestre. Lithograph f.lli Doyen, Turin circa 1848
