caption: Giuseppe (Joe) PETROSINO (August 30, 1860 – March 12, 1909), Italian policeman naturalized American, the first ever to be enlisted in New York, pioneer in the fight against organized crime. The ticket dated March 1st with the death sentence expressed anonymously against him by the gang of Don Vito Cascio Ferro, probably as a ''courtesy'' to the boss of a New York gang, Giuseppe "Piddu" Morello, during a service trip to Palermo organized specifically to verify the contacts between Italian and Italian-American criminal organizations. In addition to the threatening words, three symbols are drawn: a square inscribed in a circle, a cross pattée (perhaps a medal?) and a hand with the index finger pointing to the ground. Italy, 1909.
