Anita GARIBALDI (30 August 1821 – 4 August 1849), Brazilian revolutionary, first wife of Garibaldi; she abandoned her first husband Duarte de Aguiar to follow the Hero of the Two Worlds in 1839, when he was engaged in Rio Grande do Sul. Widowed in 1842, she married Garibaldi, to whom she bore three children and whom she followed to Italy in the defense of the Roman Republic. Rare photographic portrait, heavily retouched by hand, with autograph. South America, 19th century.
