caption: GUGLIELMO DI MARCILLAT (1470 - 1529), French painter and maestro; Who came to Rome in 1505, under the pontificate of Julius II, performed various stained glass windows for the basilica of St. Peter and Santa Maria del Popolo. He was active in Cortona and Arezzo, where he worked for the cathedral, the church of San Francesco and others. He brought the art of the glass to overcome the decorative role, reaching the communicative expressiveness of painting. The portrait is enclosed in a frame decorated with allegorical figures and instruments of the arts.
