ETRUSCANS Cerveteri, Etruscan necropolis. The necropolis of Cerveteri, known as the Banditaccia, which winds uninterruptedly for more than 2 kilometers on the sides of a burial road, is certainly the most important necropolis in all of Etruria and one of the most monumental in the entire Mediterranean world, with an arch of time ranging from the 9th century BC to the Hellenistic-Roman age. The oldest nuclei include shaft tombs for the burial of the ashes of the deceased in urns and pit tombs for inhumations. Among the large mounds we remember the I and II, of Colonel Mengarelli and of the Painted Animals, of the Shields and Chairs, of the Ship. Italy, 9th - 3rd century B.C
