The Assizes for Rebirth, prepared by the movement of municipal and territorial assemblies, opened simultaneously in Matera, Crotone, Salerno, Bari, and Taranto. In Basilicata, at the conclusion of the conference (July 1950), a promotional committee was formed, composed of figures from the political, economic, and cultural worlds, and activists from democratic and independent parties from the two Lucanian provinces. The goal was to mobilize the population in the struggle for the region's renewal, for a policy of deeds, not words, for the development of Southern Italy. December 4, 1949
