caption: TERRORISM The 'massacre of the Christmas train', perpetrated at 7:08 pm on December 23rd 1984, caused 16 deaths and 267 injuries. The remains of the train disemboweled by the explosion, pulled into the station. The rapid 904 coming from Naples and going to Milan was packed with travelers, most of them moving for Christmas parties. In the Great Gallery of the Apennines, near San Benedetto Val di Sambro (BO), a criminal will wanted a massacre of innocent citizens. Everything was set up to provoke as many victims as possible: the occasion of Christmas, the power of the explosive, the timer set to blow up the bomb under the tunnel to coincide with the transit, on the opposite track, of another convoy. Only the timing of the driver who promptly blocked the line prevented a major massacre. In that gallery the bodies of 15 people remained and hundreds were wounded in a very serious manner, some dying years later. Italy, December 23, 1984
