Antonio GIOLITTI (February 12, 1915 - February 8, 2010), Italian politician. Grandson of Giovanni Giolitti, Antonio came into contact in 1940 with the communist organization. In 1941 he was arrested by the fascist police and referred to the Special Court, which however acquitted him for lack of evidence. Resumed clandestine activity, in the spring of 1943 Antonio Giolitti, on behalf of the Communist Party, came into contact with numerous military and political personalities, in order to achieve an agreement to overthrow the fascist regime. On 8 September 1943 Giolitti with Giancarlo Pajetta, Ludovico Geymonat and Pompeo Colajanni organized the first partisan nucleus of the future Garibaldi assault brigades in Piedmont in Barge, in the Cuneo area. In September 1944, he was political commissioner of the 1st Garibaldi Division of the Valli di Lanzo, Giolitti in that year was seriously wounded in combat. Transported to France to be treated there, he manages to return to Italy only at the Liberation. After the war he immediately devoted himself to political activity: he was Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in the Parri government, Communist deputy to the Constituent Assembly, elected to the Chamber on the PCI list in 1948 and in 1953, in 1957 he left the Communist Party joining the PSI. Antonio Giolitti was a deputy without interruption until 1985; He held the position of Budget Minister in the first Moro government and was part of the third Rumor Cabinet and the Colombo government. For four years, he was a member of the Executive Commission of the EEC in Brussels. In 1987, he rejoined the PCI, and was elected senator, as an independent leftist.
