caption: NEWSPAPERS ''Il Popolo d'Italia'' newspaper founded, published and directed by Benito Mussolini to give voice to the interventionist area of the republican-inspired Italian Socialist Party; it later followed the parable of its founder's political orientation, becoming the unofficial organ of the National Fascist Party in 1922. In the illustration two workers read the pages of the newspaper standing next to the plow; the man on the left, with the red shirt, has a certain resemblance to Mussolini, the other shares the reading in an unusual pose, approaches him head to head, clasping his shoulders in comradely.
