caption: Andrea COSTA (29 November 1851 – 19 January 1910) follower of Bakunin's anarchism, organized the Italian section of the First International in 1871. Repeatedly arrested and condemned, he emigrated several times to France and Switzerland where he met Anna Kuliscioff, of whom he was a companion from 1877 to 1881 and with whom he shared arrests and exiles, and had a daughter. Back in Italy he collaborated with various socialist newspapers and was the founder of the weekly ''Avanti!...'' (1881) and of the Revolutionary Socialist Party; in 1882 he was the first socialist deputy elected in Italy. Colored print, Italy 19th century.
