Milena JESENSKÁ (10 August 1896 – 17 May 1944) Czech journalist and translator, the first to translate the works of Franz Kafka into Czech with whom she had a notable epistolary relationship around 1920. Opposed to the rise of Nazism from its beginnings, after the occupation of Czechoslovakia participated in the clandestine resistance, encouraging the expatriation of many Jews and political refugees. The Gestapo arrested him in 1939: after various prison transfers he landed at the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where he died due to neglect of a kidney disease.
