NOBEL (21 October 1833 – 10 December 1896) Swedish industrialist, chemist and philanthropist, is most famous for having made nitroglycerin widely usable with less risk, producing dynamite. His invention, created to make the work of miners safer, soon had, to his disappointment, wide application in the war sector, bringing him unexpected economic fortune together with heavy scruples of conscience. To redeem himself, by will drawn up on 27 November 1895, he established the foundation which annually awards five prizes to those who render the greatest service to humanity in the fields of science, literature and peace between peoples.
