Giulia BECCARIA (21 July 1762 – 7 July 1841) daughter of the jurist Cesare and wife of Pietro Manzoni, mother of the famous man of letters Alessandro who spent his childhood first with a wet nurse and then in boarding school, far from the unhappy marriage that lasted less than 10 years. Separated by mutual consent from her husband, Giulia lived with her lover Carlo Imbonati first in London and then in Paris, frequenting the intellectual elite. Upon the death of Imbonati (in 1805), who left her his entire estate, she called Alessandro back to live with her, finally creating a strong bond with him. In 1810 she followed her son and his new family in their definitive return to Milan.
