caption: Andrew JACKSON (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) 7th President of the United States for two consecutive terms, from 1829 to 1837. First president elected for the Democratic Party, he promoted an opening of the political and administrative structures of the United States, until then reserved for the elite of landowners and a few intellectuals. He was not as democratic towards the Native American populations, in fact in 1830 he promulgated the law issued by Congress called the ''Indian Removal Act'', which ordered the removal and deportation of at least 18 tribes from the eastern United States, assigning them to territories west of the Mississippi, which were already occupied by local native tribes.
