BORRAGINE Borago officinalis. It is a herbaceous peasant anniversary not particularly decorative if it is not in flower. Its leaves in fact are rugose and ispide, its stelo is covered of stinging hairs, but it equally deserves to be cultivated for its many virtues and the beauty of the closing. The cespo it can easy exceed the average meter of height and be cultivated also in vase, provided that in the open air. The thick hairy leaves, from the pointy form oval and the intense color gray-green, are the parts of the plant to which greater properties are attributed: decoctions and medicamentose preparations are used for; if crushed emit a juice that has the aroma of the cetriolo. Eatable raw until they are young to hold, afterwards can be cooked, but forgiveness leaves of their sweet taste. The flowers are in the shape of star, appear in clusters on the top of the stems between May and september, usually are of a beautiful blue, intense and lucente color, very more very rarely rose or whites. They are used for guarnire pietanze and drinks; if puttinges to macerate in the vinegar (in order to return it) aromatic yield it their pale blue color. A time for this characteristic was a lot searched from the tintori. Original probably of Spain and Morocco this grass now is very been set in the Mediterranean river basin and disseminated in all Italy where it grows spontaneous until 1.800 meters of height.
