ACHILLEA MILLEFOLIUM achillea, yarrow (Composite) Plant with an erect, angular, hollow stem, it can grow up to half a metre tall. Long considered sacred, the stems of yarrow were used in China to consult the book of changes (the famous I Ching): the stems were thrown into the air and depending on how they were arranged when they touched the ground, the response was interpreted. The leaves are grey-green in colour, pleasantly aromatic, rich in vitamins and mineral salts, and their design resembles that of ferns. The flowers are gathered in umbels placed at the top of the stems and have a typical, pungent scent. Other varieties of yarrow are grown for the beauty of their yellow or red inflorescences, always suitable for cutting and drying. Yarrow grows in the countryside in sunny grassy clearings, along paths and at the edge of woods, and lives throughout Europe, as well as in much of Asia and America.
