title: THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST

subject date: 2004-08-25

caption: Dario FO (March 24, 1926 – October 13, 2016) cover of ''Accidental Death of an Anarchist''; first performed on December 5, 1970, the play is inspired by the death of Giuseppe Pinelli, who fell from a window of the Milan Police Headquarters under unclear circumstances on December 15, 1969. This play led to more than forty trials for Fo: to avoid legal trouble, the author moved the play's action from Italy to the United States, where a similar event had occurred in New York City during the time of Sacco and Vanzetti, involving Andrea Salsedo, an anarchist, who died following his arrest and a fall from the fourteenth floor of the Park Row Building, the FBI headquarters where he was being interrogated. Bertani editore, Italy 1972.
