This volume is a compilation of actual photographs of patriotic volunteers posed in "carte de visite," collected after more than five years of research and catalogued alphabetically by photographer Alessandro Pavia (September 12, 1824 – September 2, 1889), the project's author and initiator, who achieved the monumental goal of capturing approximately 850 subjects.
