caption: MINERS: A group of five miners operate levers in the ancient lignite mine in Luni, known as Lunara, which was already being mined in Etruscan times. Lignite is a fossil coal with poor fuel qualities that fell into disuse after World War II (1950-60). Workers occupied the mine in an attempt to prevent its closure, which ultimately resulted in the dismissal of the workers.
