caption: MINE group of six miners posing in the very ancient lignite mine in Luni, called the Lunara, from which it has been extracted since the time of the Etruscans. Lignite is a fossil coal with poor fuel characteristics, which fell into disuse after the Second World War (1950-60). The workers occupied this mine in an attempt to prevent its closure, which then occurred resulting in the dismissal of the workers.
