caption: MINE: A group of six miners pose in the ancient lignite mine in Luni, known as Lunara, which has been mined since the time of the Etruscans. Lignite is a fossil coal with poor fuel qualities, which fell into disuse after World War II (1950-60). Workers occupied this mine in an attempt to prevent its closure, which ultimately occurred, resulting in the dismissal of the workers.
