subject date: 2004-11-16

caption: WORLD WAR II Milan, Piazzale Loreto: the bodies of 15 Gappists, hostages of the Germans shot in the square. The writing on the sign says: ''These are the GAP, partisan action team, assassins''. In the same place, in April 1945, the bodies of Benito Mussolini, Claretta Petacci and other fascist hierarchs captured and executed by the partisans on their way to escape were placed in memory (see FSNgilardi_54204.jpg); on that occasion the enormous turnout of the crowd then forced the security service to display the remains of the defeated in a place visible from afar, hanging them as is known from the shelter of the nearby petrol station. Milan, 10 August 1944.
