The offensive was conducted in the vicinity of the city of Adua, under pressure from the Prime Minister Francesco Crispi (18148 - 1901), by the Governor of the Colony of Ethiopia, General Oreste Baratieri (1841 - 1901) against the troops of Negus Menelik II (1844 - 1913), and ended with a stinging defeat for the Italians.
