The doctor and the lady-in-waiting follow Lady Macbeth tormented by nightmares and visions, who in a fit of sleepwalking, with a candle in her hand, obsessively rubs her hands, as if to remove stains that do not want to disappear. From the Shakespearean tragedy Giuseppe Verdi has drawn his tenth opera, to a libretto by Francesco Piave, and since 1948 more than a dozen cinematographic interpretations have been made.
