caption: RAPHAEL Sanzio (28 March or 6 April 1483 – 6 April 1520), ''Ecstasy of Saint Cecilia'' (? - 230): the patron saint of musical instruments is depicted at the centre of a sacred conversation between Saints Paul (4 - 67 circa), John the Evangelist (10 - 98 circa), Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430) and Mary Magdalene (1st century); in her hand and at her feet she has several broken instruments, while in the sky opens up a further vision of the celestial choir, which seems to reveal itself to her alone. Oil painting on panel transferred to canvas, Italy circa 1514.
