title: COLOR G - R LIKE ANDROMEDA

subject date: 2025-12-03

caption: ARBITRARY COLORS chromatic elaboration from the series ''R for Andromeda'', in which a female nude compressed by perspective appears suspended in cosmic space or terrestrial skies: separation of gray tones, both for the body and for the starry sky in the background (B&W G). A selection of variations of this subject was published in the magazine Photo 13, signed with the pseudonym Shinzo Tamura. For the title, Ando was inspired by the science fiction television miniseries ''A for Andromeda'', but used the letter R in homage to the model's name. The sophisticated process of creative arbitrary coloring was conceived by Ando Gilardi (1921 - 2012) #andogilardi in the 1970s, a photographic technique of great expressive power and versatility, with results that can be defined as precursors of subsequent digital elaborations. Color G, Milan, October 1973.
