caption: HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY The Forte Inglese of Portoferraio on the Island of Elba in one of the first shots made in Italy with the telephoto lens, in August 1892, from the distance of 4100 m and with an enlargement of 27 diameters (729 times). At the top in the small print we see the Forte taken on the same occasion from the same point, but with a normal Zeiss anastigmatic lens (see detail of the shooting without telephoto lens in # 42279). The photo, made by prof. Giorgio Roster and printed by Raffaello Dringoli on his own aristotypical paper, was included in an issue of the "Bulletin of the Italian Photographic Society" (SFI).
